It seems like the day I turned 39, someone flipped the switch on my once sky high metabolism. Suddenly, I could no longer eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I admit, I was very lucky to have been able to eat like a sumo wrestler and not gain any weight. But now I found that within the next 12 months, I gained 10-12 pounds that I still carry today.
As if gaining that thanksgiving turkey wasn’t enough, I couldn’t lose an ounce to save my life. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get down to the weight I had been for the last 25 years and the only size that my extensive wardrobe allowed. Not only that, the slightest overeating caused me to gain weight instantly. My metabolism was functioning at a snail’s pace, or so it seemed.
I have since incorporated more exercise, supplements, and healthier (less) eating; it has helped stabilize my metabolism. Now, a few years later, I have come to terms with the extra weight. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the lost wardrobe.
